On 30-31 January and 10 March 2017, the quality assurance organizations of the TeSLA project, AQU Catalunya, EQANIE, and ENQA, conducted a round of experts’ trainings.
More than 40 experts, including quality assurance professionals, academics, students, and technicians, were trained in order to evaluate the quality of three successive pilots which will be carried out in order to test, in the partnering universities, the e-assessment models and technologies developed within the project.
During each evaluation, the experts will provide feedback and recommendations for improving subsequent pilots and for assisting the eventual implementation of the TeSLA system. The experts will collaborate with the quality assurance units within the institutions to check the assessment methodology and perform on-site and online interviews in the participating universities.
Two different types of panels have been formed, a head panel and several regular panels, each including a president who is responsible for writing the reports, among other tasks. The regular panels will participate in the second and third pilots, while the head panel will be involved in all the pilots and will validate the work submitted by the other experts. The quality assurance organizations, with AQU Catalunya’s lead, will facilitate the work of the panels. The structures of the panels’ work are kept as light and flexible as possible, making the most out of the data produced in other work-packages, to avoid burdening the institutions too much with additional information requests during the busy times of the piloting.
At its best, the final evaluation report of the panels can work a quality narrative, providing the whole project consortium with useful insights concerning the whole TeSLA system, especially on what should be considered in the quality assurance of e-learning and e-assessment. It is also aimed at bringing about reflections on how the TeSLA system can improve the assessment methods of higher education institutions overall.
