Almost at the end of the 2nd pilot of TeSLA Project, and after 18 months of highly productive collaborative work, a regular meeting of the project consortium was held on 9-11 of May 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria. About 50 people from countries all over Europe participated and had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful capital of Bulgaria and the wonderful sunny weather.
Both Bulgarian universities, which are members of TeSLA consortium (Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Technical University of Sofia), hosted the meeting. Sofia University (SU) hosted the first day’s meetings (9th May) with the External Advisory Board (EAB) and Project Management Board (PMB) where the experts expressed their positive attitude towards the project and gave their valuable feedback and recommendations for further steps.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Reneta Bozhankova, the Dean of Faculty of Education – Prof. Dr. Boncho Gospodinov and the Pilot Manager and WP Leader Prof. Dr. Roumiana Peytcheva-Forsyth warmly welcomed all partners from the consortium in Sofia University on the second meeting day – 10th of May.
The main topics of this day were IP and Exploitation; project SWOTS about Evaluation and Quality, Legal aspects, Dissemination and Involvement of 3rd parties for the 3rd pilot; technical overview of TeSLA system for Pilot 3; strategy plans and next actions in terms of discussed topics and agreements. The pleasant atmosphere during the meeting was held until the end of the evening when the official dinner was held in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant with a rich program of folklore songs and dances.
The last day of the TeSLA meeting in Sofia was hosted by the Technical University, which is the first and largest center for engineering education in Bulgaria, which sets up the educational standards and national priorities for the development of engineering education and science. The TeSLA partners were warmly greeted by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Kralov, Vice-Rector for research and development, who expressed the pleasure of the rector board with the results from the participation of the university in the TeSLA project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Anna Rozeva, project leader of the TUS team, presented some facts about the history, structure and educational programs of the leading Bulgarian university in the field of technical and applied science.
The TeSLA meeting started with a summary of the topics discussed during the previous day, outlining the achieved results and emerged questions. In parallel sessions of the pilot and technical boards the current technical, legal, ethical and quality of education issues and questions in the context of the second pilot were discussed to make initial planning of the steps and strategies for the third large scale pilot. During the panel for Mid-term review the work package leaders described the status of the TeSLA project and the expectations for the second half of it. Dissemination results were explained and further activities for the exploitation and distribution of the TeSLA system were outlined.
The discussions among participants were not limited to the plenary halls, they were continued in informal settings, facilitating the thematic conversations and supporting the different opportunities for the improvement of further collaborative activities.
The results of the 2nd pilot of TeSLA project will be evaluated in the next meeting in Netherlands in November, when the 3rd pilot will be just started. Now TeSLA Team is focused on its planning since it is the biggest challenge of the project – TeSLA system will be tested with more than 20 000 students! Keep following our TeSLA blog – it will most certainly be interesting!
